BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) will officially launch its new model, the Xia, its new offering in the MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) market, two days later.
The company will hold a launch event for the Xia MPV at the Beijing National Aquatics Center starting at 19:30 Beijing Time on January 8, BYD announced yesterday.
The Xia is the premium MPV in BYD’s Dynasty lineup and follows the Denza D9, another MPV under the BYD Group umbrella.
BYD previously launched the M6 MPV in China in 2010 and the Song Max in 2017. Both models have now been discontinued in China.
The Xia MPV is a plug-in hybrid, and it measures 5,145 mm in length, 1,970 mm in width and 1,805 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,045 mm, according to a previous regulatory filing.
The dimensions are a bit smaller than the Denza D9, which has a length, width and height of 5,250 mm, 1,960 mm, 1,920 mm and a wheelbase of 3,110 mm.
The Xia is powered by an engine with a displacement of 1,498 ml and a maximum power of 115 kW, and it has an electric motor with a maximum power of 200 kW, according to the regulatory filing in October.
BYD gave the Xia its debut on the first day of the Chengdu auto show on August 30, saying at the time that the MPV would be priced in the RMB 300,000-yuan ($40,980) class.
The model is part of BYD’s Dynasty lineup, and the Xia is the first Dynasty in recorded Chinese civilization. BYD’s other major lineup is the Ocean series.
BYD’s Dynasty series previously included the Han, Tang, Qin, Song, and Yuan families, all of which were named after Chinese historical dynasties.
The Xia is expected to feature BYD’s fifth-generation DM hybrid technology, which was released on May 28 last year and brings lower fuel consumption.
BYD began accepting pre-orders for the Xia on September 27, but did not release any pricing information at the time.
