BYD (HKG: 1211) vehicles now generate over 100 million kilometers of assisted driving data daily in China, set to accelerate the rapid iteration of its smart driving algorithms.
As of the end of September, cumulative sales of BYD models equipped with assisted driving systems exceeded 1.7 million units, generating over 110 million kilometers of data daily, the company announced today on Weibo.
In September, BYD sold 295,606 cars with assisted driving systems, accounting for 91.3 percent of its total sales in China last month.
This includes 266,248 BYD-branded vehicles, 21,667 Fang Cheng Bao models, 6,986 Denza units, and 705 Yangwang vehicles.
Currently, BYD’s smart driving models primarily utilize its God’s Eye system, while its Fang Cheng Bao sub-brand employs Huawei‘s Qiankun smart driving system in select models.
BYD’s God’s Eye system features three tiers: A, B, and C. The top-tier God’s Eye A is currently exclusive to models under the ultra-luxury sub-brand Yangwang.
God’s Eye B and God’s Eye C cover models across BYD’s Dynasty and Ocean lineups, Denza, and Fang Cheng Bao.
BYD has been viewed as a laggard in smart driving for years due to its strategy.
However, the company has significantly increased its investment in this field this year, launching smart driving versions for over 20 models in February alone.
On July 9, BYD announced its intelligent parking function achieved capabilities comparable to level 4 autonomy and pledged to cover any losses incurred by users in China due to the feature’s operation — making it the only automaker to do so to date.
The rollout of BYD’s 14 millionth NEV comes about 11 months after its 10 millionth vehicle.
