In the latest Senate version of the GOP’s budget and tax bill, better known as Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill, the 30% tax credit for home solar and batteries is going to be over 180 days from the time the President signs it. Other tax credits for utility-scale solar and wind projects are going to be completely phased out by 2028. As expected, the Republican Party has been trying to remove incentives for renewable energy to clean its grid and achieve much-needed productivity expansions. The main effort is through the new budget and tax bill, known as Trump’s ‘Big Beautiful Bill’,…
Honda is attending next month’s Goodwood Festival of Speed to give its hot hatch a proper sendoff by showcasing the Civic Type R Ultimate Edition. It’s also bringing the new hybrid Prelude and the oddly shaped 0 SUV, which doesn’t quite resemble the Hondas we’re used to. Alongside these already-revealed models will be a new concept, pompously named the Super EV. Although Honda is tight-lipped about the diminutive hatchback, we can’t help but wonder if it’s an indirect successor to the charming Honda e. Production of that pint-sized city commuter ended in January 2024, but it seems a follow-up may…

Chinese tech giant Xiaomi, primarily known for its smartphones, is branching out by making cars. The SU7 is the company’s inaugural model and has already spawned a high-performance Ultra version. Last October, a prototype lapped the Nürburgring in an astonishing 6 minutes and 46.8 seconds. At that point, Xiaomi promised it would return to the Green Hell and repeat the hot lap with a production-ready car. Predictably, the SU7 Ultra that customers can purchase in China was unable to match the performance of the stripped-down prototype. Nevertheless, a lap time of 7 minutes and 4.95 seconds is a remarkable achievement.…
Nissan finally ditches the old-school passively cooled battery pack for the new Leaf. A new liquid-based system can harvest heat from the onboard charger. The third-generation Leaf EV also comes with a new suspension setup at the rear. The Nissan Leaf was the world’s first mass-produced electric car. It was–and still is–one of the most affordable EVs in the game, which resulted in over half a million sales since its debut in 2010, but its low entry price also means some corners had to be cut. For 15 years, the first- and second-generation Leaf came with a passively cooled high-voltage…

We rarely cover cars sold exclusively in China, but we’re willing to make an exception on occasion if there’s a compelling reason. Geely’s latest product meets the criteria with its unusual name, impressive driving range, and the simple fact that it’s not another SUV. Roughly the same size as a Toyota Camry, this large sedan is called the Galaxy A7, a name that immediately brought to mind Samsung’s namesake smartphone from a few years back. Side note: Samsung actually made cars in Korea through a joint venture with Renault. Beyond the unexpected Samsung connection, the Galaxy A7 also evokes thoughts…
Tesla is caught in a legal fight in which it admitted that it would “suffer financial harm” if its self-driving crash data would becomes public, but it’s not for the reason you are thinking. Tha automaker is currently in a legal battle against The Washington Post, who is requesting data regarding Tesla crashes related to its ADAS systems (Autopilot and Full Self-Driving). The U.S. National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) requires automakers to report all crashes that involved ADAS systems. Tesla crashes represent the vast majority of crashes reported to NHTSA, but we don’t have much data on those crashes…
Cariad, Volkswagen Group’s software unit, is on the right track. CEO Peter Bosch said costs have been significantly reduced. Cariad, Volkswagen Group’s troubled software division, is in a better shape now than it was last year, CEO Peter Bosch said in an interview with Automobilwoche. The German automaker’s software unit was famously responsible for the delayed launch of the all-electric Porsche Macan and Audi Q6 E-Tron. In the previous three years, it racked up operating losses of over $7.5 billion while revenue was nearly $3.5 billion.
