Zeekr (NYSE: ZK) today shared a preview video of the Zeekr 9X on Weibo, hinting that the hybrid SUV (sport utility vehicle) model will be a performance beast.
The video shows the Zeekr 9X undergoing winter testing in snow at minus 39 degrees Celsius and with humidity as high as 72 percent.
The Zeekr 9X can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 4 seconds across its lineup, and can master all terrains, Zeekr wrote on Weibo.
The model will be the performance ceiling of full-size SUVs, combining elegance and power, Zeekr said.
The performance is strong for a large SUV. For reference, Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA)’s Model 3 Performance mid-size sedan can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.1 seconds.
The Zeekr 9X is positioned as a new global flagship ultra-luxury SUV, targeting high-end consumers, a Zeekr spokesperson told CnEVPost.
The model will be the first to feature Zeekr’s super hybrid technology and Zeekr G-Pilot H9 smart driving solution, according to the company.
The Zeekr 9X will be officially unveiled at the Shanghai auto show in April and officially launched in the third quarter, the spokesperson said, repeating the previously mentioned schedule.
Zeekr announced on March 10 that its upcoming full-size SUV is named Zeekr 9X, and that it would launch a super-luxury Grand variant of the model, priced at possibly more than RMB 1 million yuan ($137,700).
The electric vehicle (EV) maker launched the Zeekr G-Pilot on March 18, saying that the smart driving solution has door-to-door smart driving capabilities.
The Zeekr 9X, powered by the Zeekr G-Pilot H9 solution, would be Zeekr’s first model to support L3 smart driving, it said at the time.
The model will use dual Nvidia Drive AGX Thor chips with a computing power of up to 1,400 TOPS, according to the company.
The upcoming auto show will be held from April 23 to May 2, with April 23-24 being media days.
The Zeekr 9X will mark a key step in Zeekr’s transition from offering only battery electric vehicle (BEV) models to also offering plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) models.
Zeekr was established in March 2021 and, like mainstream Chinese EV makers, initially only offered BEV models.
Over the past few years, with the rapid changes in market conditions, most local EV makers have begun to add hybrid models to their product lineups in addition to BEV products in order to target a larger market.
