More than 80 percent of customers ordered the Max version of the G9 with Xpeng‘s assisted driving feature, XNGP, as standard.

Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) continues to share order intake for the new G9 to demonstrate the initial success of the launch of the flagship SUV’s facelift.

The 2024 G9 received more than 15,000 firm orders after 15 days on the market, with more than 80 percent of customers ordering the Max version of the model, Xpeng announced today on Weibo.

“For every five Xpeng G9s sold, four come standard with City NGP capability,” Xpeng said.

Today is the first working day after China’s long National Day holiday, albeit it’s a Saturday. Sunday, October 8 will also be a working day.

The Xpeng G9 was initially launched on September 21, 2022, with a starting price of RMB 309,900 ($42,440) seen as competitive.

However, the G9’s confusing configuration at the start of its launch last year sparked a great deal of dissatisfaction and overshadowed its appeal. Xpeng subsequently made significant changes to the model’s versions and pricing.

On September 19, Xpeng officially launched the new G9, available in five versions. It removes some of the features of its predecessor, thus allowing a starting price of RMB 263,900, which is RMB 46,000 lower than the old model.

The new G9 has two Pro versions, and three Max versions, which have different assisted driving capabilities.

The Pro versions come standard with one Nvidia Drive Orin chip with 254 Tops of computing power and without any LiDAR, while the Max versions come standard with two Drive Orin chips, with computing power doubled to 508 Tops and two LiDARs as standard.

The Pro version’s driver assistance capabilities include adaptive cruise control, lane centering assist, lane change assist, and memory parking, while the Max version comes standard with the more powerful XNGP (Navigation Guided Pilot) feature.

XNGP is a full-scenario assisted driving system, including highway NGP and City NGP. Xpeng’s goal is for XNGP to provide driving assistance in all scenarios, including highways, city roads, internal park roads, and parking lots.

The cheapest Max version of the Xpeng G9 is the 570 Max, with a CLTC range of 570km and a starting price of RMB 289,900, which is RMB 26,000 more expensive than the RMB 263,900 of the entry-level model.

The more streamlined options and lower price tag make Xpeng’s remake of the G9 an initial success.

Xpeng has high hopes for the new G9, which its chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng said at the launch event is expected to be the number one selling pure electric SUV priced in the RMB 250,000 to RMB 300,000 range.

The 2024 G9 received more than 8,000 firm orders within 72 hours of its launch, Xpeng announced on its social media channels on the model’s fourth day on the market.

Deliveries of the new G9 began on September 21, Xpeng said at the time. The company did not announce how many units of the model had been delivered so far.
