    Top NEV sellers in China in Oct: BYD No. 1 with 33.7% share, Tesla No. 8 with 3.7% share

    In the January-October period, BYD was No. 1 with a 36 percent share, Tesla was No. 2 with 7.8 percent and Nio was No. 9 with 2.1 percent.

    BYD (OTCMKTS: BYDDY) continued to be the top seller of new energy vehicles (NEVs) at retail in China in October, with a significant lead over its peers.

    BYD’s retail sales of 258,011 NEVs in China in October gave it a 33.7 percent share of the country’s NEV market, according to a ranking released on November 9 by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

    The NEV giant’s share decreased 0.8 percentage points last month from 34.5 percent in September.

    Geely Auto was second with 59,974 retail sales of NEVs, or a 7.8 percent share, and SAIC-GM-Wuling was third with sales of 48,935 NEVs, or a 6.4 percent share.

    Li Auto (NASDAQ: LI) was seventh in October with 40,422 retail sales, or a 5.3 percent share, up from a 4.8 percent share in September.

    Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) ranked eighth in the CPCA ranking with 28,626 retail sales in China in October, giving it a 3.7 percent share of the country’s NEV market.

    Tesla’s share of the Chinese NEV market decreased by 2.1 percentage points last month, compared to its 5.8 percent share in September.

    Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) came in at No. 9 with 20,002 units sold, or a 2.6 percent share.

    Leapmotor was No. 10 with 18,202 sales, or a 2.4 percent share.

    Nio (NYSE: NIO) delivered 16,074 vehicles in October, failing to make the CPCA’s October list. Last month Nio was No. 10 on the ranking with a 2.1 percent share.

    In the January-October period, BYD was No. 1 with 2,142,794 retail sales of NEVs, or a 36.0 percent share, according to the CPCA.

    Tesla was second with 462,355 retail sales in China during the period, or a 7.8 percent share.

    GAC Aion was third with 398,818 retail sales of NEVs, or a 6.7 percent share.

    Li Auto was seventh with 284,647 units sold in January-October, or a 4.8 percent share.

    Nio was ninth in retail sales in January-October with 126,067 units sold, or a 2.1 percent share.
