In my quest to spend as much time outside as possible, along with building a surf van to explore the California and Baja coasts, I have been looking to wire my camper van up with a 100Ah LiFePO4 battery in order to let me fully enjoy some creature comforts while boondocking deep down a dirt road in Baja. The Redodo 12V 100Ah Group 24 LiFePO4 battery seemed like the perfect fit for this build where reliability and budget are both a priority. Additionally, compared to a Group 31 size battery, the Group 24 size is suitable for most camper vans, making it an ideal choice.

    Unboxing

What impressed me most about the Redodo 12V 100Ah Group 24 LiFePO4 battery upon opening the box was how light and compact it is. I thought of the myriad ways that its diminutive size (with big output) would be helpful from van life and RV builds to even going way out there to a backcountry cabin for an off-grid setup.

When you open the box you are greeted with smart packaging, a clear and concise operating manual and a compact, sturdy battery. Every seam of the cardboard box was securely taped and inside the cardboard box closed-cell foam secured the battery tightly. The instruction packet and terminals were neatly packaged inside a weather-tight, heavy ziploc bag. The battery itself is strong, compact, lightweight, and the terminals look well sealed, giving me assurance that the 12V 100Ah Group 24 battery would be a great long-term choice for my off-grid needs.

Inside the box were an extra set of terminal screws (score!), which always have a way of going missing when assembling something. I was also excited about the convenient carrying handles that easily pop out of the battery unit, making moving this lightweight battery around a breeze. I was excited to put this battery to the test and see how it would perform. Due to shipping laws, Redodo can only deliver the battery with a partial charge, though this wasn’t a problem. An easy overnight charge on my lithium charger had the Redodo 12V 100Ah Group 24 LiFePO battery up to 100%.

What is the Redodo 12V 100Ah Group 24 LiFePO4 battery?

Redodo 12V 100Ah Group 24 LiFePO4 batteries boast compact dimensions of L10.24*W6.61*H8.3 inches, guaranteeing an ideal fit in any standard Group 24 battery box.

It’s a perfect solution and has proper size for your van life build, class A/B/C motorhome, trolling motor setup for your lake fishing boat, a small off-grid cabin, or anything else where you might need a moderate amount of power. It does not have the functionality to power your car or RV, but can be combined in series or parallel for bigger electrical needs (i.e., tiny home, RV, or a bigger camper van setup). (The Redodo 12V 100Ah Group 24 battery’s intended use is as an energy storage battery, though it will also function with a 30-70 lb trolling motor). All of this power is combined with Grade A cells providing 4000 charge cycles and a 10-year lifespan. Coupled with Redodo’s 5-year warranty and lifetime technical support, this Redodo battery is a no-brainer for anyone looking to build or add capacity to their off-grid system.

    The Nitty Gritty

    • Grade A cells
    • 5-year warranty
    • 4000-15,000 charge cycles
    • Lightweight (21.56 lb)
    • BMS protection board (protects against overcharge, over dis-charge, over current, short circuit, and it has a high temp cut-off)
    • Supports 4P4S, for those looking to add multiple batteries and higher needs (this flexible option allows you to expand your system as you need)
    • See the full specs on Redodo’s product page here

I have long term plans to work this battery into my van life setup, but was eager to test out its capacity over a short camping trip, just to see it in action. For this test, I hooked up the Redodo to my portable AC/DC Dometic brand cooler fridge in an effort to see how it would perform. We left with the Redodo 12V 100Ah Group 24 fully charged with no backup charging or solar panels, in an effort to put this battery to the test and see if it would keep the fridge running and our food and drinks cool over the long weekend.

It performed flawlessly, keeping the Dometic fridge fully working throughout the weekend, even running some string lights and charging our phones. Of course, I don’t yet have enough data to review the 12V 100Ah Group 24’s long term performance, but so far, so good! Cold weather can be a factor for many people when choosing a battery, however, it wasn’t much of a concern for our needs, as we live in California, and plan to use the battery mostly for summer and shoulder-month van life camping trips.

Redodo seems to out-perform its competition on price alone, and with its compact, weight-saving design, the Redodo 12V 100Ah Group 24 battery is a shoe-in for anyone building a camper van, mobile trailer, class A/B/C motorhome, or tiny home. I am excited to see how this battery works out over the coming years, but have no doubt that it will be an integral part of my surf van setup.
