Pony AI (NASDAQ: PONY) has begun robotaxi road tests in Luxembourg as it advances its overseas business expansion.

The Chinese autonomous driving startup has partnered with local firm Emile Weber to deploy multiple robotaxis for testing in Luxembourg, according to a press release issued yesterday, which did not specify the exact number of vehicles.

The tests will initially take place in Lenningen and will later expand to additional areas.

In September last year, Pony AI established its European R&D center in Luxembourg, focusing on exploration and development in cutting-edge autonomous driving technologies.

On October 23, 2024, the company signed a memorandum of understanding with Luxembourg-based mobility company Emile Weber to collaborate on the development and deployment of robotaxis in the region.

Emile Weber is a comprehensive mobility service provider in Luxembourg with over 150 years of operational history, offering services such as public and private transportation, taxi operations, vehicle rentals, and tourism services.

The tests in Luxembourg mark a new chapter in Pony AI’s collaboration with European partners, said James Peng, co-founder and CEO of Pony AI, adding that the company will deepen its cooperation with Emile Weber and expand its autonomous driving services to more regions in Luxembourg within the coming months.

In addition to Emile Weber, Pony AI is collaborating with multiple Luxembourg public institutions and commercial partners to jointly establish technical and policy frameworks, the company said.

Currently, Pony AI has accumulated over 45 million kilometers of autonomous driving test mileage globally and has established an operational network spanning over 2,000 square kilometers across four cities: Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen, according to the company.

Over the past two years, Pony AI has completed over 500,000 hours of fully autonomous driving tests across diverse scenarios, the company said.

In addition to Luxembourg, Pony AI is also expanding its autonomous driving business in South Korea, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Singapore.

Pony AI could be listed in Hong Kong this year, according to Bloomberg.
