CATL (SHE: 300750) saw its market share in China’s electric vehicle (EV) battery market rise from the previous month, while BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) experienced another decline.
In June, China’s power battery installation volume totaled 58.2 GWh, up 35.9 percent year-on-year and up 1.9 percent from May, according to data released by the China Automotive Battery Innovation Alliance (CABIA) on July 10.
CATL’s battery installations in June came in at 25.41 GWh, maintaining its top position with a 43.67 percent market share, up 0.8 percentage points from May’s 42.87 percent share.
BYD’s battery installation volume in June was 12.49 GWh, ranking second with a 21.47 percent share, despite a decrease of 1.02 percentage points from May’s 22.49 percent.
CALB’s battery installations in June totaled 4.39 GWh, accounting for a 7.55 percent market share, up 0.02 percentage points from May’s 7.53 percent.
Gotion High-tech ranked fourth in June with 2.92 GWh of installations and a 5.02 percent market share.
Eve Energy replaced Sunwoda to rank fifth in June with an installation volume of 2.53 GWh and a market share of 4.35 percent.
China’s ternary lithium battery installation volume in June was 10.7 GWh, accounting for 18.4 percent of the total installations. This represents a year-on-year decrease of 3.4 percent but an increase of 2.0 percent compared to May.
Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries installed 47.4 GWh in June, accounting for 81.5 percent of the total volume. This represents a year-on-year increase of 49.7 percent and a month-on-month increase of 1.9 percent.
CATL, CALB, and LG Energy Solution were the top three in ternary battery installations in June, with market shares of 71.23 percent, 10.91 percent, and 8.76 percent, respectively.
In the LFP battery market, CATL, BYD, and CALB had the highest installations in June, with market shares of 37.46 percent, 26.34 percent, and 6.80 percent, respectively.
China’s production of power batteries and other batteries in June reached 129.2 GWh, up 51.4 percent year-on-year and up 4.6 percent month-on-month.
Ternary battery production in June reached 29.5 GWh, up 42.1 percent year-on-year and up 8.3 percent month-on-month.
LFP battery production in June reached 99.5 GWh, up 54.5 percent year-on-year and 3.5 percent from May.
China exported 15.8 GWh of power batteries in June, including 9 GWh of ternary batteries and 6.8 GWh of LFP batteries.
CATL and BYD’s combined EV battery installations for January-May came in at 222.7 GWh, accounting for 55.5 percent of the global total.
