Cadillac Lyriq owners can expect some nice upgrades to their cars in March, General Motors said on Friday. It’s a bit of positive news during the otherwise choppy rollout of GM’s new electric platform. The software update adds a few improvements. Perhaps most notably, Super Cruise, GM’s hands-off highway-driving system, should require fewer interventions from drivers after the update. Similar improvements are headed for the Lyriq’s hands-on adaptive cruise control feature, which automatically follows lane lines and keeps up with traffic—under driver supervision, of course. Let’s say you have an RV like an Airstream, with all of its beautiful curves, but you want to add solar panels to it. Or maybe you’d like to outfit some other non-flat surface, such as on a boat or van or utility trailer, with solar panels, so you need them to be flexible enough to be installed close to flush to the surface — and you’d also like them to be lightweight enough to not affect the vehicle in any way. That’s not…
In 2023, all-electric car registrations in the United States exceeded 1.1 million for the very first time, far outpacing the growth rate of the overall car market. While questions remain about EV demand in 2024, there’s no doubt that last year was a landmark one for electric adoption. According to the registration data from S&P Global Mobility (via Automotive News), battery-electric cars made up 7.7% of total new, light-duty vehicle registrations in 2023. That’s up from 5.7% the year prior. (Note that registration data lags behind sales and deliveries by at least a few weeks, but it can be used as a proxy…

The new Kia EV9 is being marked up by dealers despite the brand specifically asking them not to. As demand picks, some dealers are marking up the electric SUV by up to $7,000 over MSRP. Kia EV9 is being marked up by dealers Kia opened orders for its first three-row electric SUV in November after gaining “significant consumer interest with pre-orders,” according to Kia America’s VP of sales, Erica Watson. I watched as a not-yet-on-sale Fiat 500e sauntered down the Auburn Hills, Michigan road, filled to the brim with two smiling Stellantis executives. The brightly colored city car looked out-of-place amongst the sea of black and silver trucks and large crossovers that occupied the parking lot of the bistro where I agreed to meet the new head of Fiat North America – Aamir Ahmed, and Stellantis communications representative Nick Cappa. Stellantis offered an exclusive look for InsideEVs to paw through the 500e before it officially goes on sale. As our resident Fiat 500 Abarth owner and Fiat aficionado (maybe apologist…
The last time Fiat made an electric 500, the late (pre-Stellantis) Fiat Chrysler Automobiles CEO Sergio Marchionne actively encouraged people not to buy the car. The brand was losing a five-figure amount of cash on each unit sold. The result was that Fiat could offer a lease deal for as little as $49, with state and federal incentives. It was an amazing deal. But Fiat’s North American Lead Aamir Ahmed said it’s never, ever coming back. According to Ahmed, the new 500e is far better than the old 500e. It’s a ground-up fully electric model with no shared development costs…
