Stellantis says yes to the Tesla charge port, in code. Kia is reportedly planning on an electric Stinger. And Chrysler rolls out a new EV concept showcasing a whole lot of potential innovation. This and more, here at Green Car Reports. Chrysler has revealed the Halcyon Concept EV, powered by lithium-sulfur batteries, allowing a long driving range and very fast charging—allegedly, 200 miles of range with a five-minute charge—and incorporating in-the-road dynamic wireless charging. The big, butterfly-door sedan is strictly concept-car territory, but the Chrysler brand plans to have an all-electric portfolio by 2028 and today its only plug-in product…
It’s long been said that hybrids will rule the world. Wait, that’s not right. Hybrids will serve the world as more of a stop-gap between internal combustion and fully electric cars, at least until the battery tech and infrastructure are ready for prime time. (At least, that’s the going theory, but when it comes to the future of powertrains, things are never easy to predict.) Until then, the world will may have some teething issues—let’s explore that. Welcome to Critical Materials, our daily news round-up of EV and automotive tech. Today, we explore how automakers intend to use the money…
An electric successor to the sporty Kia Stinger may launch in 2026 under the name EV8, according to source material revealed via Korean Car Blog. A proper enthusiast’s car sporting a rear-wheel-drive platform and sleek hatchback styling, the Stinger emerged in the 2018 model year. Kia discontinued it after the 2023 model year. But a similar model with an electric powertrain now appears to have been given the green light. Korean Car Blog cites Kia’s Union New Car Production Schedule, which lists this model as being allocated to the automaker’s Hwaseong Plant 3 in South Korea. The plan also reportedly shows…
Stellantis is the latest automaker to adopt Tesla’s North America Charging Standard (NACS) port for EV fast charging—but the automaker’s announcement of it, made Monday, downplayed any connection to Tesla to a point that EV shoppers and longtime Tesla fans alike might find absurd. A Stellantis press release doesn’t mention Tesla or NACS at all. Instead it says the automaker is adopting “the proposed SAE J3400 connector.” That’s technically correct, as the NACS connector is still in the process of being formally standardized under the name SAE J3400. But without the focus on NACS as enabling access to the Tesla…

Chrysler on Tuesday debuted the gorgeous Halcyon Concept EV in an attempt to redefine the brand as it pivots to electric vehicles. Unlike the Chrysler Airflow Concept that debuted in 2022 as a near-production-ready electric crossover launching in 2025, the Halcyon Concept four-door coupe won’t ever make production. So what is it, and how does it help a brand that makes more concept cars than models it sells? “Halcyon represents a period of time of happiness, joy, and serenity,” Chrysler brand CEO Chris Feuell told members of a press briefing at the end of January. Merriam-Webster is less sanguine. It…

Then it’s easy to start solving the problems of hydrogen for energy. Then it’s easy to wave away a problem set of hydrogen for energy as not your concern. And then solve more of the problems for energy. And wave away another group of problems as something someone else will solve. And then solve yet another problem with hydrogen for energy. And then you are at the bottom of one of many slippery slopes…

The newly announced solar panel recycling agreement between Qcells and SOLARCYCLE is a first-of-its-kind partnership between a large solar panel maker and an advanced solar recycler in the US.
