Gotham City’s Dark Knight boasts an impressive collection of technological marvels, but the superhero scientists at the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) have cutting-edge capabilities of their own. From left to right, Donal Finegan, Bertan Özdoğru, and Bertrand Tremolet de Villers celebrate the successful demonstration of BatMan’s novel laser-patterning process, which alters the microstructure of battery electrode materials to improve battery performance. In December 2023, the French government kicked off an ambitious program to encourage low-income households to buy electric cars and to broaden the appeal of EVs. The initiative entailed leasing 25,000 European-manufactured EVs at a monthly rate of €100-150 ($108-160), without any deposit. The response was overwhelming and the government received a staggering 90,000 applications within a few weeks, surpassing the available supply. Get Fully Charged France wants to make EVs equitable The country offered up to €13,000 of subsidy on each qualifying EV and a leasing opportunity costing €100-130 per month for certain EV models and eligible buyers. However,…

Ford EV drivers can access a special easter egg Joshua Moore, a software engineer at Ford, revealed a new “easter egg” found on all vehicles with its SYNC 4A infotainment. Republican officials may not be representing their constituencies on EVs. The fuel-cell-powered Honda CR-V has a charge port and makes the most of it. And what do EV drivers really want in charging-station amenities? This and more, here at Green Car Reports. Fiscal-hawk types used to see EVs as a great idea, for energy independence and all sorts of other reasons. When did Republicans turn against EVs? As a political consultant recently underscored, it’s complicated—and all the heel-digging vs EVs doesn’t truly reflect constituencies. Honda has teased some modest styling changes for its upcoming hydrogen fuel-cell CR-V. In a video,…
EV bashing has become a regular Republican position and talking point, but it hasn’t always been this way. In a recent InsideEVs article, Detroit-based Republican and campaign consultant Mike Murphy discussed the results of a poll of 600 voters on EVs. Like many other current political issues, it shows a deep partisan divide, in this case with Republicans vehemently against EVs. There are some predictable reasons for this, as Murphy notes. EVs are still closely tied to climate-change policy, so Republicans’ views of them are shaped by general hostility toward the concept of climate change itself. 2023 GMC Hummer EV…
I think every electric vehicle owner has had that “a-ha” moment; that instance when you just sort of get how everything works, when fear gives way to excitement about the advantages of moving on from gasoline, when everything clicks. Sometimes that happens behind the wheel. Other times, it happens when someone you know and trust can show you the way. Regardless of how it happens, that lack of firsthand and secondhand experience may be a big factor in holding back wider EV adoption. That leads off this midweek edition of our Critical Materials morning news roundup. Also on today’s reading list:…
When it comes to charging stations, EV drivers want the same amenities drivers currently get at gas station, a new AutoPacific study found. The AutoPacific EV Consumer Insights Study asked over 7,200 “future EV acceptors,” defined by the consulting and market-research firm as “those who either intend to purchase or will consider purchasing an EV in the near future,” about their ideal charging experience. Respondents pointed to gas-station features like windshield cleaner, air pumps for inflating tires, and vacuums as most-wanted features for charging stations, along with more charging-specific elements like clear signage for pricing and charging speed. Sign up for daily news updates from CleanTechnica on email. Or follow us on Google News! A recent article at Forbes reports on an awful situation: renewed attempts to sabotage the EV market. Just like the original Who Killed The Electric Car? moment, we’re seeing attempts to derail and gut EVs so that entrenched interests can keep making money. While some of the writing about the problem is sensational (blaming Mr. Bean for everything), there is still a lot of bad information circulating about EVs. Not only have we seen problems with outright misinformation and disinformation, we’re also seeing governments…
The JackRabbit electric micro bike is as divisive as it is diminutive, which is to say, “very.” But one thing just got a lot less micro on this pint-sized commuter. The company has just unveiled its RangeBuster battery, which has nearly 250% of the capacity of an original JackRabbit battery. The JackRabbit tends to conjure up strong emotions in those who see it. There’s always one camp who shakes their heads and asks, “Why?” Then there’s the other camp who gleefully hops aboard the funny little electric two-wheeler, tossing a “Why not?!” over their shoulder as they ride off grinning…
