The Dacia Spring might not ring a bell in the United States, but in Europe, it’s known as one of the cheapest electric cars on the market. It’s small, it doesn’t have a lot of range, and it’s not particularly powerful, but with a price as low as $13,000 (12,000 Euro) after incentives, it’s hard not to consider it when buying a new car for urban driving. And now it’s better than ever because the Romanian (but Chinese-made) EV got its biggest overhaul yet, at least when it comes to looks. Oh, and it has a frunk now. Get Fully…

Like it did with passenger EV rebates back in December, Germany has decided to pull the plug on subsidy programs for electric semi trucks and city buses. What happens to the nation’s commercial EV market now? If you’re a regular Electrek reader, you probably believe that Germany acted prematurely when it cut its EV subsidy program in December (a full year earlier than expected). Combined with rapid global inflation driving up vehicle prices and governments throughout the EU pouring money into hydrogen refueling and you might think a drop in EV sales is almost inevitable that the country. That said,…

For years, range anxiety has been a major barrier to wider EV adoption in the U.S. It’s a common fear: imagine being in the middle of nowhere, with 5% juice remaining in your battery, and nowhere to charge. A nightmare nobody ever wants to experience, right? But a new study proves that in the real world, that’s a highly improbable scenario. After analyzing information from 18,000 EVs across all 50 U.S. states, battery health and data start-up Recurrent found something we sort of knew but took for granted. The average distance Americans cover daily constitutes only a small percentage of…

In my quest to spend as much time outside as possible, along with building a surf van to explore the California and Baja coasts, I have been looking to wire my camper van up with a 100Ah LiFePO4 battery in order to let me fully enjoy some creature comforts while boondocking deep down a dirt road in Baja. The Redodo 12V 100Ah Group 24 LiFePO4 battery seemed like the perfect fit for this build where reliability and budget are both a priority. Additionally, compared…

The folks at Lectric generously provided their Electric XP Trike so I could give it a whirl and share my experiences. I was given the floor model e-bike at a micromobility event in the San Francisco Bay Area, so the bike was already assembled and ready to ride. Thus I didn’t get to experience Lectric’s unboxing pomp and circumstance, so that isn’t part of this review, as it typically is for all things CleanTechnica-tested. Internationally, Volvo already has one of the latter—its big EM90 luxury electric minivan for China.  2025 Volvo EC40 (Europe spec) Volvo just gave the XC40…
