It’s been a long time since I charged my Tesla Model 3 SR+ above 90%, but I’m taking my girls on a little road trip and just charged up to 95%. It didn’t take me long to notice something had changed. The car was braking for me as I was approaching stopped traffic at a red light. I know, I know — regen braking. Except, it wasn’t that, and this is the whole point. It used to be that the regen braking fades away,…
Photo: GE Renewable Energy GE Vernova is abandoning plans to supersize its offshore wind turbines and will instead focus on rolling out smaller “workhorse” turbines. In March of last year, GE Vernova CEO Scott Strazik said during a GE Investor Conference that the market was receptive to larger variants of the company’s Haliade-X offshore wind turbines: “Now we are getting a very positive reception from the market with our 17 to 18 MW Haliade-X variant off of what we’re shipping this year.” However, GE Vernova has decided to shelve that idea for the future. Parent company GE writes in its…
Software seems to be opening up endless possibilities in EVs. As if features like pumping artificial sounds through speakers, simulating manual gear shifts, and creating music through pedals weren’t innovative enough, automakers are now going one step further to ensure that some of you ICE car lovers don’t suffer from FOMO in the electric future. And that step involves making EVs, erm, vibrate. The upcoming 2025 Dodge Charger EV, which in concept form broke cover as the Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Concept last year, will not only pump fake noises through its gimmicky-sounding “Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust,” but also incorporate a…

Despite the threats posed by climate change, the U.S. remains deeply divided on electric cars. A J.D. Power report from 2023 suggested that even in the long term, electric cars will constitute only a small percentage of new vehicle sales in dozens of U.S. states. Whereas in states like California, Colorado, and New York, EVs are on track to comprise the majority of new sales by 2035. One of the biggest drivers of this division is car dealers. Of the roughly 17,000 car dealers in the U.S., about 30% have formally urged President Biden to “hit the brakes” on EVs.…
Luxury EV startup Lucid Motors isn’t selling nearly enough cars, and its CEO, Peter Rawlinson, knows it. “We’ve got the very best technology,” Rawlinson told investors and Wall Street analysts during the startup’s fourth-quarter earnings call earlier this week. “What we haven’t got is scale and an economy of scale.” The California-based manufacturer, which launched its debut vehicle in 2021, produced 8,428 Air sedans last year. Of those, it was able to sell just 6,001 to customers. Lucid said on Wednesday that it aims to make 9,000 cars in 2024, barely an improvement year-over-year. For a company that once projected it…

Mercedes reels back its global targets for EV sales, although it’s still pushing ahead with current EV plans. Volvo details how it’s backing away from Polestar. And EVs will likely get cheaper than gasoline vehicles before the end of the decade. This and more, here at Green Car Reports. Mercedes-Benz has delayed its EV targets announced earlier in the decade. While it had planned for EVs and hybrids to make up 50% of its sales by 2025, it now expects to hit that target in 2030. It also appears to have scrapped its plan to only sell EVs by 2030…
