The world didn’t implode when BMW launched a front-wheel-drive minivan a decade ago. The apocalypse also didn’t come when the 3 Series got a three-cylinder engine. We’re fairly certain we’ll survive the day when the M division rolls out its first production model without a combustion engine. Until the inevitable happens, a new spy video gives us a taste of what to expect. Although BMW has been selling electric M Performance cars for about four years, there still hasn’t been a full-fat M EV. Footage from Tenerife in Spain serves as an unofficial preview of the two models set to…
It’s the kind of move that can tank a deal and leave a bad taste behind, a bad faith gesture that helps no one. And that’s exactly what one Oklahoma buyer says happened when he tried to trade his 2016 Ford F-150 King Ranch for something smaller. John Jones (@john.johns5141) decided to downsize into a black 2019 Audi S5 because “we were spending so much in gas and realized that we had no real use for a truck,” he wrote in a direct message to Motor1. What should’ve been nothing but the pleasure of learning his new car became a…
Photo by Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, via New York Times Tesla has engaged in a pattern of taking credit for the successes of its Full Self-Driving (FSD) software, even though the car still relies on an attentive driver, and yet blaming the driver rather than the software whenever things go badly. But new moves towards allowing more distracted driving could make it harder for the company to blame drivers when its software fails. Tesla has been marketing some version of its Autopilot or FSD software since 2013. Ever since then, the company has made bold pronouncements about how rapidly the…
The new Model Y variant starts at RMB 288,500 ($40,500) and boasts an 821-km CLTC range, with estimated delivery times of 2-4 weeks. It features a 78.4-kWh battery pack, the same as the 830-km range Model 3. (A screenshot from Tesla’s China website shows a new Model Y variant with an 821-km range.) Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) today launched a new five-seat Model Y variant in China, boasting the longest range in the SUV’s lineup, following a similar move for the Model 3 sedan three months ago. The Model Y variant — the Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive Edition — starts at…
Toyota’s next-generation electric vehicle batteries could vastly improve the driving range and charging speeds compared to today’s packs. The company is reportedly working on cells that can last four decades and be reused multiple times during that period. The aging will happen with minimal energy degradation, the company claims. Writing about solid-state batteries feels like waiting for a train that’s always five minutes away, but it never actually arrives. Automakers have been developing these ‘holy grail’ batteries for years, but we’re yet to see a real-world mass-market application. The bold claims, however, continue to land much faster than the tech itself.…
The YouTube show Everything Electric visited the headquarters of McMurtry Automotive to learn about the origins of the Speirling fan car. The company had to invent several technical solutions to make the Speirling possible, and a lot of work was done in-house. McMurtry is now taking orders for this single-seater track toy, and the first deliveries are expected to kick off in 2026. McMurtry is on a mission to create small, lightweight electric vehicles that are insanely quick. And it’s been doing a pretty bang-up job, to put it mildly. Its first product, a track-only single-seater called the Speirling, can…

Earlier this year, Stellantis made major changes to its North American operations. Tim Kuniskis, who returned in 2025 to retake the top spot at Ram, became the head of the automaker’s American brands and announced the return of the SRT division. And according to the automaker’s earnings presentation, we’ll see the results of that revival very soon. On page 19 of Stellantis’ Q3 shipments and revenue report, it states that Ram will introduce two SRT products within the next three months. During the call, Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa said: ‘Lastly, Ram will be showing even more of its trademark…
