Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) lags in locations versus the other road-trip fast-charging standards that have been used for EVs. But it is the future.  Months ago, earlier this year, that future was not at all apparent. But May 25 the tide turned.  That day, with a joint chat between Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Ford CEO Jim Farley, it was announced that Ford would adopt Tesla’s NACS connector in future EVs, starting in 2025, and that current Ford EVs would gain access to Tesla’s Supercharger network starting early 2024.  Ford Mustang Mach-E at Tesla Supercharger The timing fit…

They’ve been investing in UK facilities to usher in the transition to electric vehicles (EVs). They’ve been planning even more funding to adhere to a 2030 ban on the sale of new internal combustion engine (ICE) cars and vans. As the deadline nears, however, some drivers have gotten quite vocal about their opposition to the proposed changes, and social media messaging has included numerous attacks on British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak as a result. Suddenly, Sunak decided the ban would be…

Tesla is on the verge of delivering the first Cybertruck. Despite the automaker having produced likely hundreds of trucks and being about to start deliveries, there’s still a lot we don’t know about the electric pickup truck. Tesla first unveiled the Cybertruck in 2019 and announced specs and pricing at the time, but the automaker is known to update its vehicles significantly from prototype to production. On top of it, the auto market has changed…

Shortly after revealing its high-tech next-generation electric vehicle production line in Japan, Toyota has now shared an ambitious plan to boost its EV output to lock horns with its surging American and European rivals. Toyota has informed its major suppliers of a new target of making 600,000 EVs in 2025, a three-fold increase from its earlier goal of churning 190,000 EVs in 2024, reported Japanese publication Nikkei. The auto giant sold 24,000 EVs in 2022 and aims to sell 150,000 EVs in 2023, as per the report. In the US, Toyota’s pure EV sales are a fraction of Tesla’s, and considerably…

The upcoming all-electric Tesla Cybertruck pickup might get a special, performance-oriented version, with more power and torque. Tesla CEO Elon Musk wrote a comment on X stating that yesterday he had an opportunity to check out “the performance Cybertruck” and indicated that it brings a step change in performance (compared to the regular version, as we understand): “I just drove the performance Cybertruck today and it kicks ass next-level.” The comment, related to the Tesla Cybertruck, is attached to the Tesla Owners Silicon Valley’s post about the possibility of a Tesla Model 3 Plaid version. Elon Musk denied that such a version…

This robust headcount is expected to triple to over 60,000 people after the Elon Musk-led brand ramps up Cybertruck production in the coming months, said Jason Shawhan, the Giga Texas director of manufacturing, at the Austin Regional Manufacturers Association conference on September 19, 2023, according to the Austin Business Journal. Tesla appears to have added roughly 8,000 employees in the…

Which automaker this week said it’s done with diesels, worldwide? And is a “battery EV” or a “plug-in EV” the one without a tailpipe? This is our look back at the Week In Reverse—right here at Green Car Reports—for the week ending September 22, 2023. In a first drive of the 2024 Kia EV9, in prototype form, Green Car Reports found this upcoming three-row electric SUV to be exactly what the market needs—as a standout versus smaller performance-oriented crossovers and other models its size likely bearing much higher price tags. With automaker-approved bidirectional charging due next year, too, it will…

Sign up for daily news updates from CleanTechnica on email. Or follow us on Google News! When it comes to EV news, Tesla seems to get a lot of the media attention. The reasons are pretty obvious: Tesla’s not only ahead of everyone else on EVs and charging infrastructure, but it was the impetus for everyone else getting (back) into it in the first place. So, it’s only natural that the company gets much of the attention. But sometimes Tesla news sucks a lot of the air out of the room, and we missed an announcement from BMW earlier this…

Most of the fun and funky vehicles I manage to dredge up for the Awesomely Weird Alibaba Electric Vehicle of the Week are big on weirdness but short on power. This time that seems to be reversed, as this electric race car is more wild than weird and comes with some seriously impressive performance. This isn’t some slow crawling electric battle tank or ice-cream truck shaped like a VW bus. Those are more typical of this series on odd Chinese EVs, but this time we’re going all-in for extreme performance. That means you’d better be ready to buckle in for…
