Tesla has built 60-70 Semi Class 8 electric trucks so far since low-volume production started in Q3 2022 on a pilot production line at Gigafactory Nevada. This latest production update comes from Tesla’s Senior Manager of Semi-Truck Engineering Dan Priestley, who was a guest on Jay Leno’s Garage in the recent video that saw the famous comedian and car collector get behind the wheel of a Tesla Semi. Interestingly, this is the first production update since learning via a June recall that Tesla had built 36 Semis as of March 2023. “We’ve made a few dozens of it, we’re up…
Japan’s hesitancy toward EVs is taking its toll on automakers in China. Nissan’s sales are plummeting after failing to keep up with EV leaders like Tesla and BYD. Slow EV transition is costing Nissan in China Nissan is struggling to keep up in the largest EV market globally as sales continue to slide. The Japanese automaker’s sales fell nearly 29% in China in August, with only 65,000 units sold. Of those 65,000, only 106 (0.16%) were the Nissan Ariya, the brand’s global electric SUV. Infiniti, Nissan’s luxury brand, saw sales of its D60 EV fall 60% from last year. D60…

At a time when renewable energy is one of the keys to keeping the Earth habitable for humans (and millions of other species as well), it offers several key advantages. First, wind speeds are higher and more constant over the oceans than they are closer to land or inland. That predictability is appealing to investors and makes electricity from offshore wind farms more dispatchable — meaning when the grid needs it, it will be…
GM doesn’t look on track for its EV targets. Nissan shows a very boldly styled EV concept. And Ford gives the F-150 Lightning a heat pump and more, in a Flash. This and more, here at Green Car Reports. Ford on Tuesday rolled out the 2024 F-150 Lightning Flash electric truck. The $72,090 Flash adds a real-world range-boosting heat pump and, as a trim level of the F-150 Lightning with the larger extended range pack and an expected 320 miles of range, offers up a “tech-focused” proposition for shoppers. Nissan’s Hyper Urban crossover concept is the first of four EV…
Tesla is rolling out a new safety feature for its entire portfolio of passenger cars sold in the United States that should provide better visibility after a crash. Starting yesterday, all US-bound Model 3 and Model Y vehicles, as well as Model S and Model X cars made after 2020 and sold here will get an over-the-air (OTA) update that will add a hazard light auto-activation feature after an airbag is deployed. Furthermore, the hazards will flash faster than their normal rate, making the damaged EV easier to see, especially at night, considering the car’s turn signals will act as…
General Motors’ third-quarter financial results show a slow production ramp of Ultium EVs but indicate the automaker is unlikely to meet its near-future electric vehicle delivery targets. GM reported that it delivered just 4,222 Ultium EVs in Q3, compared to 15,835 Bolt EV and Bolt EUV models. The Bolt EV and EUV, which are based on a different architecture than the Ultium models, are scheduled to end production this year. GM has said they will be replaced by an Ultium-based successor. The Cadillac Lyriq had the highest delivery total among the current Ultium models, at 3,018 units for the quarter.…
The investigation will be concluded within 13 months, and any provisional anti-subsidy duties can be levied within nine months after initiation if legally warranted. https://img.cnevpost.com/2023/10/04202909/2023100412290997.mp3 (Image credit: CnEVPost) The European Union formally opened an anti-subsidy investigation into electric vehicles (EVs) from China, after unveiling the plan last month. China promptly voiced its opposition to the move. “The European Commission has formally launched today an anti-subsidy investigation into the imports of battery electric vehicles (BEV) from China,” reads an announcement issued by the commission today. The investigation will first determine whether China’s EV value chain has benefited from “illegal subsidization” and…
Nissan is unveiling four EV concepts in the weeks leading up to the 2023 Tokyo auto show. Each will have the prefix “hyper,” with one debuting each week until the Tokyo show’s press day, scheduled for Oct. 25. First up is the Hyper Urban crossover which, according to Nissan’s press materials, targets “urban- and suburban-based professionals.” Nissan apparently thinks these customers want bold exterior styling. Up front, the grille-less fascia folds in on itself. The same shape is repeated at the back, but also blends into protruding rear fenders. The concept also features Lamborghini-style scissor doors, but these are likely…
A new video surfaced online showing a release candidate (RC) Tesla Cybertruck accelerating quite hard from a standstill after waiting for the traffic light to turn green. Shot and published on YouTube by Levi Filippi, the 53-second video was initially posted on the Cybertruck Owners Club forum by another member, but the original source was later revealed in the replies. It’s worth noting that the less-than-a-minute-long vertical shot embedded at the top of this page is a source of entertainment more than anything else, as we don’t know what speed the electric pickup reached before braking, or what speed the…
