Tesla late Thursday introduced yet another price cut for its Model 3 and Model Y, as represented on its consumer website, bringing the price of these new EVs down to their lowest ever.  The move, cutting up to $2,250 off these models, depending on the version, directly follows news earlier this week that, globally, third-quarter Tesla deliveries came up short of what had been expected. Toyota has big plans for its future electric vehicle lineup, and has made sure the world is aware of that by making multiple announcements in recent months. The Japanese automaker said earlier this year that it aimed to launch 10 new battery-electric vehicles by 2026, when its annual production of BEVs should hit 1.5 million. Lucid Motors on Thursday confirmed that the base single-motor rear-wheel-drive Pure version of its Air electric luxury sedan will offer 410 miles of EPA-rated driving range—more than a Tesla Model S—for less than $80,000. The Lucid Air Pure RWD is available to order now with a base price of $78,900 (including a mandatory $1,500 destination charge). That’s $5,000 less than the dual-motor all-wheel-drive Air Pure. Toyota on Wednesday announced a “long-term” battery supply agreement with LG Energy Solution, which the automaker claims will secure batteries for U.S. EV production. Under the contract, LG will supply battery modules at an annual capacity of 20 gigawatt-hours starting in 2025, according to a Toyota press release. Comprised of nickel-manganese-cobalt-aluminum (NMCA) pouch-type cells, the modules will be manufactured at LG’s Michigan factory, which will receive a roughly $3 billion investment to add new production lines for the Toyota contract.
