I’m a big fan of the Kia EV6, particularly in GT form. But one frequent complaint about that trim level is that while its 576 horsepower rating and zero to 60 mph time of 3.4 seconds are commendable, the range is less than stellar at 206 miles. (Other EV6 trims do much better, thankfully.) Fortunately, Kia and its corporate cousin Hyundai are switching to Tesla’s once-proprietary North American Charging Standard (NACS) port in the coming years, giving owners the same level of convenience that Tesla drivers have enjoyed for years. It’s a big shift, and at Kia’s inaugural EV Day event…

The first installations of the all-new V4 Tesla Supercharging dispensers are already underway in at least three states (Oregon, Nevada, and Alabama). A new photo of V4 stalls from Nevada, shared by Mardak on Tesla Motors Club (TMC) forum, reveals to us important elements featured on the V4 in the United States: an integrated CCS1-adapter (aka Magic Dock), a credit card reader and a small display.   The Magic Dock adapter was first introduced on V3 Supercharging dispensers to enable non-Tesla drivers to use the charging network under Tesla’s Supercharging pilot program in North America. Kia on Thursday confirmed final EPA range estimates for its 2024 EV9 electric SUV—and they’re better than originally targeted.  The 2024 Kia EV9 will return up to 304 miles of EPA range with its 99.8-kwh battery pack, Kia revealed, in the EV9 Light Long Range. And the base EV9 Light, with its 76.1-kwh battery, will return 230 miles.  Both of those models are single-motor rear-wheel-drive versions, with final range figures 4 and 5 miles better than Kia’s most recent targets. Kia notes that the final numbers for dual-motor all-wheel-drive versions of the EV9 represent even more impressive gains—up to 27…

Aptera this week gave an update on its solar-assisted EV, but still hasn’t provided a firm timeline for production. The Aptera 3-wheeler uses integrated solar panels to boost range up to 1,000 miles in some versions, with enough power to outrun some sports cars, Aptera has claimed. It can also be charged conventionally, and Aptera was the first non-Tesla automaker to confirm the use of Tesla’s NACS charge port). Earlier this year the company claimed to have 40,000 reservations for the vehicle, and designated the first 5,000 as Launch Editions. These will have one motor powering each wheel with a…

Tesla’s foray into the wireless power delivery systems was a short one, but that doesn’t mean that the contactless vehicle charging pad that was teased during the company’s Investor Day event back in March is dead. According to The Robot Report, Wiferion, a German wireless charging products start-up that was acquired by Tesla this summer for an undisclosed sum, has been sold to German-based Puls Power, which makes DIN rail power supplies. However, as per the source, which quotes a person with knowledge of both changes of hands, Wiferion’s engineers will stay at Tesla, as they are not included in…
