Nevertheless, the US Navy is among those cheering hard for success. Why Wave Energy? If you’re wondering why people are still pursuing experimental…

All vehicles become less efficient in cold weather. In a recent study, researchers in freezing Finland focused on whether engine block heaters could help increase efficiency in internal-combustion vehicles. Conducted by the University of Eastern Finland and Tampere University, the study, published in the journal Applied Energy, produced some complex results. Vehicles were driven on the same route after a cold start, after pre-heating with an engine block heater, and with the engine already warmed up by driving. The route represented a typical commute, with temperatures dropping as low as -18.4 degrees Fahrenheit. Engines only reached their optimal operating temperatures…

In the images (embedded below), a release candidate (RC) Cybertruck is stopped at a Tesla Supercharger, and a Rivian R1T is parked right next to it, giving us an idea of what to expect when the angular all-electric pickup hits the market toward the end of this year (probably). Judging from the photos, the Cybertruck seems a bit wider and longer than the R1T.…

Six months after buying my first EV (see My First EV — Part I), the time has come for the first long trip — Cupertino to Huntington Beach, about 420 miles each way. We decided to go on Highway 101 rather than 5, about 20 miles longer, but a prettier drive. We took two days to get to the destination, with one overnight stop in Santa Maria and one day to get back home. Ready to go, 283 miles in the tank. We drove…
