General Motors announced Tuesday that it is delaying scaled-up production of its full-size electric pickups for a whole year, to late 2025.  That extra year of time, idling GM’s Orion Assembly in Michigan, won’t be filled by additional production of the Chevy Bolt EV and Bolt EUV, however. Those models are still due to go out of production late this year, with a next-generation Bolt EV due to follow at some future date and $30,000 Chevy Equinox EV due in spring 2024. In the meantime, low-volume production of the Chevrolet Silverado EV and Cruise Origin will continue at GM’s Factory…

Right now, in the electric vehicle world, all eyes are on China. But they may need to be on America’s neighbor to the south more than we think. It’s no secret that Chinese-made EVs are making significant inroads into other countries. What’s less known is how popular China’s EVs are in Mexico, too. The tough tariffs instituted by the U.S. government keep those cars out of our market for now, but how long can that situation possibly last?  The boom in Chinese cars in Mexico is the focus of a new documentary from MotorTrend, and it’s worth watching for anyone…

The 2024 Nissan Leaf is now eligible for a $3,750 federal EV tax credit, Nissan confirmed Monday in a press release. The credit—half the maximum amount of $7,500—can be applied to any new 2024 Leaf models purchased and placed in service by Dec. 31, 2023. The confirmation comes after several months of ambiguity on whether the Leaf would qualify for any tax-credit amount under new rules enacted under the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). According to Nissan, because the Leaf and its battery pack are produced in Smyrna, Tennessee, it qualifies for a $3,750 credit under the “battery content” requirements of…

In a seemingly bizarre yet tragic twist, a new study says that EV owners are a fickle bunch. After purchasing an electric vehicle, half of EV owners go back to ICE vehicles as either a replacement car or a second vehicle – all with the exception of Tesla owners, who are (no surprise) notorious for their fierce brand loyalty. A new study from S&P Global Mobility revealed that EV owners switching back to ICE vehicles had three classic arguments: pricing, infrastructure, and range anxiety, and other consumers just felt better having an ICE or hybrid vehicle in the garage as…

We know from the countless drag races we’ve organized, filmed, and watched so far that power isn’t the only deciding factor for a win. And with the current crop of high-performance electric cars, power is getting a relative term to some extent – if you want to make an impression on the drag strip, it is no longer enough to have 300 horsepower on tap. But in many cases, the more power your vehicle has, the higher the chances are for a triumph. Our Turkish colleagues from the global Motor1.com family have recently put against each other two of the…
