Tesla has leaked upcoming new sports seats for the Model S Plaid through its service manual. When it comes to having performance versions of its vehicles, Tesla primarily makes suspension and brake upgrades. Often, it doesn’t even change the powertrain. It stays the same, but its software locks capabilities in cheaper versions and unlocks them for the performance versions in order to achieve faster acceleration and top speed. It results in minimal hardware differences between versions – streamlining vehicle production. Last week, we learned that Tesla was working on new “sport seats” for the updated Model 3 Performance. Now, we…

With all of the headwinds EVs are facing in recent weeks, one thing is becoming increasingly clear: affordability is a giant factor. With inflation kicking families in the butt at grocery stores, economic challenges leading to lower or lost pay, and interest rates climbing, car buyers are feeling the squeeze. People simply can’t afford as much of a monthly payment as they did before, and at the same time, that monthly payment doesn’t buy as much car (because more of it goes to interest).…
The hydrogen fuel cell car segment in the United States (actually in California, where the series-produced models are available) continued its rebound last quarter, potentially heading towards the best year ever. According to the Hydrogen Fuel Cell Partnership’s data, during the third quarter of 2023, 966 new hydrogen fuel cell cars (aka FCV or FCEV) were sold in the U.S., which is 531 percent more than a year ago (from a low base of 153 units). The Hydrogen Fuel Cell Partnership’s FCVs sales data comes from Baum and Associates. “Sales data is based on car sales sold by a dealer…
The Volkswagen Group is slashing 2,000 jobs at its Cariad software division as a part of a strategic restructuring plan, triggering a chain reaction of delays for the development of future electric vehicle platforms, German publication manager magazine reported yesterday. The group’s board of directors has approved the downsizing, which will occur between 2024 and the end of 2025, said manager magazine, citing leading executives from the group. However, the plan still requires approval from the works council, which has guaranteed jobs for workers till mid-2025, Reuters reported. Cariad, formed in 2019 under the VW Group, is in charge of…

So far, that assumption has held true, because the company has been too busy building out its own charging network to even consider selling any of the stations. Plus, until recently, Tesla’s charging hardware only worked with Tesla’s cars, so it would have been pointless for anyone else to buy them. But, things have changed. First, Tesla opened up the design of the company’s proprietary connector, calling it…
It’s often said that electric powertrains will allow automotive designers to throw out many current design conventions. That’s certainly the case with this EV concept. Created by Hoverboard inventor Shane Chen, the SHANE is a two-wheeled electric car with seating for five in a pod-like cabin sandwiched between giant wheels that “automatically react” to body motion to maintain stability, according to a press release describing the vehicle. “Two-wheeled cars have simply not been practical or stable enough for everyday driving, until now,” Chen said in a statement. “I look forward to collaborating with partners to bring this concept to life.”…
Workers at GM’s Spring Hill Manufacturing are now on strike UAW has announced that it has come to a tentative agreement with Stellantis to end the six-week strike, including job gains from the reopening of a plant in Belvidere, Illinois and addition of a new battery plant in that location. Soon after, UAW announced that workers at GM’s plant which makes the all-electric Cadillac Lyriq will go on strike. Just days after UAW made a tentative deal with Ford, the union has now announced a similar deal with Stellantis, the parent company of Chrysler. Just as with the Ford deal,…
