As we get close to the Cybertruck Delivery Event, the excitement around the unconventional electric pickup truck is reaching its zenith. After looking at a massive number of Cybertruck prototypes this year, some features are still a mystery — power output was one of them. I’m not sure how, but someone was able to get a closeup picture of the Cybertruck power outlets. This is probably the first and only picture of the power outlets integrated into the side wall of the Cybertruck’s bed.…
EV startup Rivian is racing past many rivals with its all-electric adventure vehicles. Yet, what many may not know is that the technology inside a Rivian is just as alluring as the design. Rivian is using software to gain an advantage over the competition. Rivian took a page from Tesla in designing and building its electric vehicles from the ground up, with a focus on software. Although it’s a costly strategy, it has given Rivian an advantage as it scales production. “It’s a fantastic advantage because starting from a clean slate allows us to learn from the successes but also…
How do you perfectly blend nostalgia and futurism? Well, one way to do that is to take a 60-year-old icon of a car and add modern Tesla power. On a recent trip to the New York edition of the 2023 Electrify Expo, the sprawling grounds outside the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island featured crowds lined up for test drives in cutting-edge new EVs with a palpable sense of excitement. But at the opposite end of the venue, the vibes were part sci-fi flick and part Herbie Fully Loaded, thanks to one low-riding electric Volkswagen Beetle conversion grabbing eyeballs amidst multiple customized Teslas. Anywhere you go on…

The mood around the canapé table at CleanTechnica was somber in August when we learned that Proterra had filed for bankruptcy. We like to think the EV revolution will deliver all those who aspire to selling electric vehicles to the promised land of high sales and big profits, but that is sadly not the case. Just as there are hundreds of car companies that have come and gone since Karl Benz built his first car (many older readers are still dismayed that stalwarts such…
General Motors’ Cruise autonomous driving unit just can’t catch a break these days. The company has made headlines for all the wrong reasons in recent months, but things have precipitated since early October, when one of its robotaxis ran over a pedestrian who had been previously struck by a hit-and-run driver. That accident raised a series of questions after it was determined that the Cruise AV dragged the pedestrian 20 feet in an attempt to pull over out of traffic. More flags were raised when it was discovered that Cruise had edited footage of the incident that it submitted to…
BMW will become the world’s second automaker to offer a Level 3 highly automated driving assistance system when its Personal Pilot L3 feature becomes available on the latest-generation 7 Series (including the i7) later this year in Germany. The maker of the i5 will follow in the footsteps of Mercedes-Benz, which started fitting the S-Class with a similar system earlier this year. Priced at roughly $6,400 (€6,000), the BMW Personal Pilot L3 feature allows the driver to take his hands off the steering wheel and his eyes off the road at speeds of up to 37 miles per hour (60…
EV maker Canoo unveiled its latest model, the “American Bulldog” electric pickup truck, on Friday. Canoo says its new electric truck is “woven into the American spirit” with grit and innovation. After settling a multi-year SEC investigation earlier this year, Canoo is ready to put the past behind it. The struggling EV startup delivered vehicles to the US Army and NASA. It has also added several clients, including Walmart. Canoo secured $113 million in combined incentives for its EV assembly and battery module manufacturing plants in OKC and Pryor, respectively, in August. It also introduced its LDV 190, expanding its…
The Toyota Camry Hybrid is soon getting all-wheel drive. Battery tech in the Polestar 5 could allow some very fast charging. Lucid lets the Air charge other EVs. And VW claims again it’s working on a $35,000 EV for the U.S. This and more, here at Green Car Reports. Polestar offered up a number of technology announcements and product previews at its first Polestar Day event yesterday. Among them, perhaps most notably, is that it’s planning to test StoreDot’s very fast-charging tech in a Polestar 5 prototype that might gain 100 miles in 5 minutes. It also gave the Polestar…
Volkswagen is once again planning to bring an affordable electric vehicle to the U.S. market—and it’s setting a target under $35,000. According to reporting from Reuters, from one of its own trade conferences in Detroit, VW Group of America product strategy chief Reinhard Fischer confirmed the new product focus for North America, indicating that the model might be built either in the U.S. or Mexico. VW already has plants in Chattanooga, Tennessee, as well as in Puebla, Mexico, and it’s planning a South Carolina plant due to build a Scout-brand EV. With that and localized battery packs, it might be…
Polestar made a choice with the 4 – it eschewed the rear window entirely with the debut of its coupe-sized electric premium crossover. When it was first shown off, most of us probably handwaved away the lack of a rear window, figuring that Polestar designers were dead set on proving they weren’t Volvo by integrating a contrarian design quirk on one singular model that would fly in the face of the textbook utilitarian nature of most Volvos. Then, just yesterday during the brand’s first-ever Polestar Day event, it showed off the production-intent design of the Polestar 5 sedan. Like the…
