Ferrari is working on its own in-wheel motor design for EVs. How will that old Leaf or Prius pack go toward a new American-made EV? And what are Honda’s hydrogen plans other than a CR-V Fuel Cell? This and more, here at Green Car Reports.  Honda has provided a few more details regarding its next-generation fuel-cell modules set for the U.S.-made CR-V Fuel Cell starting next year—and indicated that fuel-cell products for Europe may be a bigger part of the company’s hydrogen plans this time around.  Recent patent filings suggest that Ferrari in-wheel motors may be in the works. The Tesla Cybertruck, which is arguably one of the most hyped-up vehicles in recent history, won’t do too much good for the Elon Musk-led EV manufacturer, at least in the short term, and canceling it would actually be good for the company’s shares. That’s what Jefferies analyst Phillipe Houchois said after cutting the price target to $210 per share on Tesla stock citing reduced earnings and free cash flow estimates. It’s a bold statement, seeing how the Cybertruck is about a week away from finally being delivered, and the internet hasn’t been too kind to the financial analyst, as you…

Redwood Materials, the battery recycling effort started by Tesla alum JB Straubel, believes it’s critical to ramp up domestic content in American EVs—and for helping automakers meet sustainability targets. Last month, Redwood detailed one way it’s making that process happen on the ground: It started an online portal for end-of-life EV batteries. Through it, U.S. automotive dismantlers—also known as salvage yards—can enter details regarding what they have and get an instant offer for their battery pack.  Automotive recycling isn’t as centralized as you might think, but through a tangle of connections and partnerships for various components, most of the materials…

Europe’s lawmakers voted in favor of ‘made in Europe’ green manufacturing rules as part of the EU’s Net Zero Industry Act — a first step towards a pan-European industrial strategy. This will boost European support for green tech to counter growing pressure from the US and China and will make the continent’s supply chains more resilient, says Transport & Environment (T&E). MEPs support a 40% domestic production target for key green technologies, such as batteries. They are also pushing for greater weight to be given to sustainability and resilience criteria in public tenders and support for consumers. However, in the…

A recently-surfaced Ferrari patent application hints at in-wheel motors for future performance road cars. In a filing published by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) Nov. 2, 2023, filed the previous April, the Italian performance automaker appears to be working to integrate motors together with friction brakes, as part of a car’s wheel assembly. Ferrari is developing axial-flux motors, but the application discusses the more traditional type of motor—of the radial-flux permanent-magnet synchronous kind. As described in the application, the stator would be part of the wheel hub, while the rotor would be attached to the wheel rim.…
