Tesla has just expanded its Non-Tesla Supercharger Pilot program to another country, making available select Superchargers in South Korea to other electric vehicles. The company did not reveal details, but its map of Superchargers indicates that roughly 80 sites (or about half of the local network) were opened. The South Korean network has a thousand Supercharging stalls. The jubilee 1,000th dispenser was installed in Incheon-Yeonsu on November 17, according to Tesla Charging profile on X (@TeslaCharging).   The South Korean market is an interesting one, because just like in the United States and Canada, Tesla uses its in-house charging connector…

Electric vehicle battery swapping is a concept that has become widespread in China after EV startup Nio pioneered it and battery giant CATL adopted it. Nio has exported its battery swapping stations outside its borders as well, mainly in Europe. As of October 26, Nio had 2,000 Power Swap Stations in China and 27 in Europe, with plans for rapid growth in the following months. The idea is simple: instead of waiting half an hour or more to charge your EV’s battery to 80 percent SOC at a DC fast charging station, you can have your battery swapped with a…

If you’re an American kid of a certain age, you remember the Sears Christmas Wish Book vividly. It would come in the mail every fall, usually arriving a day or two before Thanksgiving, and it would be filled with gifts — from the mundane to the exotic — that were guaranteed to bring a smile to your face. Today, Sears as we knew it is gone, and the idea of thumbing through a physical catalog to find out what hot new toys and trends would be coming out for Christmas seems quaint. Indeed, the whole idea of a “Christmas” wish…

A Florida judge found “reasonable evidence” that Tesla, along with its CEO Elon Musk and other managers, knew that the so-called Autopilot advanced driver assistance system was defective but still allowed cars to be driven unsafely, according to Reuters. The news comes after Judge Reid Scott, in the Circuit Court for Palm Beach County, ruled last week that the plaintiff in a lawsuit over a fatal crash involving a Tesla Model 3 could proceed to trial and bring punitive damages claims against the EV manufacturer for intentional misconduct and gross negligence. The court action is related to a 2019 crash…

The upgraded Tesla Model 3, which was known under the “Highland” codename during development, was named the “Best car you can buy in Norway” by automotive website Motor.no. The car journos pitted the facelifted EV against its Model Y sibling, as well as the BMW iX, Volkswagen ID.3, MG4, Peugeot e-2008, Renault Megane, and many more. In the end, the Chinese-made Model 3 came up on top of the 50 candidates because the main gripes of the non-facelifted version were resolved. That is, the quality of the interior has been improved compared to its predecessor, with a higher sense of…

After months of rumors, it appears that Tesla is finally confirming that it plans to bring Full Self-Driving Beta, its more advanced Level 2 active safety system, to China. Tesla reportedly confirmed to a local media outlet that it is making progress on bringing the system to the Chinese market after previously shutting down similar reports earlier this year. Now it would appear that the automaker is well into the process of bringing its core driver assistance software to the hungriest EV market on the planet. We knew about Tesla’s potential plan to launch FSD in China earlier this year.…

Lots of automotive and motorcycle manufacturers have expressed interest in the electric bicycle market. We’ve talked about a lot of these in great length, with honorable mentions including Porsche, Ducati, and Audi. Iconic American motorcycle label Harley-Davidson also had an offshoot specializing in electric bikes called Serial 1, and I put that in past-tense because that company has just been sold. That’s right, in a surprising turn of events, Harley-Davidson has sold Serial 1 to LEV Manufacturing, a company based out of Florida with a knack for producing lightweight electric vehicles. Just last year, Serial 1 rolled out a number…

Cruise, General Motors’ self-driving taxi venture, plans to relaunch its driverless cab service in a single unspecified city in the United States.  The announcement, reported by Reuters, comes after California banned the troubled business unit’s vehicles from offering rides on public roads following an accident where a pedestrian was dragged by a Cruise autonomous vehicle after being hit by a human-driven vehicle. After the ban, GM’s self-driving taxi unit paused all supervised and manual car trips in the United States, which caused a bit of a mess internally. CEO Kyle Vogt and chief product officer Daniel Kan stepped down, and…

Tesla has updated its billing policy with a “congestion fee” aimed at increasing throughput at its Supercharger DC fast-charging stations. According to the Supercharger fees page on Tesla’s website, updated earlier this week, users will now be charged $1 per minute to charge above 90% capacity. Tesla notes that this applies to “busy” stations only, but it makes no note about what defines a busy station or what percentage of Superchargers will have this surcharge.  “This fee encourages drivers to charge only as much as is needed for their trip, rather than all the way to 100%,” Tesla says on…
