Mazda currently offers zero all-electric vehicles in the United States after it pulled the MX-30 electric crossover from the market this summer over poor sales. The automaker does plan to launch another battery-electric vehicle in the U.S., but that one isn’t reportedly coming before 2025. Mazda North America CEO Tom Donnelly recently told Automotive News the future EV will be an existing nameplate and likely a crossover, noting that the automaker will add more EVs depending on consumer demand. Launching a single new electric vehicle two years from now will hardly help Mazda get a foothold in the U.S. EV…
I’ve been covering the auto industry for more than a decade now. I may not be as much of a hardened veteran as some, but I am at the point where not a lot truly surprises me anymore. Today, I can safely say that’s changed because I have seen the Tesla Cybertruck up close and in person for myself. Let’s just say that the photos and videos you’ve seen so far don’t really do it justice—the Cybertruck looks like nothing else on the road. Now, do I mean that in a good way, or a bad way? I’m still making my…
After asking its dealers to join it “on an epic journey of sustainable expansion,” Ford revealed over two-thirds of its dealers joined almost a year ago. However, close to 400 dealers have dropped out of the program since then. Ford asked its dealership network to become a part of the automaker’s “revolutionary” EV transformation last year. In December, CEO Jim Farley revealed that 1,920 dealers joined the program. Of them, 1,659 dealers chose the higher “Certified Elite” tier. The other 261 went with the “Certified” tier. The lower level requires a $500K initial investment and includes repair and maintenance and…
We’ve known for more than a month now that Tesla will hand over the first Cybertruck vehicles to customers on Nov. 30 as part of a delivery event held at Gigafactory Texas in Austin. Now that we’ve entered the week of the event, Tesla has also announced the starting time and—surprise, surprise—it’s in the daytime, which is rather unusual for a big event like this one. Martin Viecha, Tesla’s head of Investor Relations, announced on X that the Tesla Cybertruck Delivery Event will start “around 1 p.m. CT.” “The Cybertruck delivery event starts at around 1pm CT on Thursday, in…
Wireless EV charging may be easier with some new tech details. Owners of the plug-in hybrid Jeep Wrangler are being told not to plug in. And did all the other U.S. brands committing to the Tesla standard for EV fast-charging influence Tesla’s new congestion fee? This and more, here at Green Car Reports. Fewer EV drivers may need to worry about plugging in each night thanks to some final guidance announced last week regarding hardware components for EV wireless charging. This “missing piece” of standardization that allows vehicle parking systems to assist with precise alignment over charging pads, could give…
Improbable and unrealistic scenarios are excellent tools to explore the odder aspects of our universe. Schrödinger’s cat being both alive and dead is a case in point. The trolley problem which had a massive resurgence in popularity and cultural awareness with the rise of autonomous cars is another. The thing about these scenarios is that no one pretends that they are remotely realistic or proposes seriously a world in which they happen. Quantum physicists do not create experiments with cats, boxes and radioactive material in order to test them, and would be horrified if anyone suggested it. Similarly, traffic planners…
SAE International finalized methodology this past week for an important hardware component of EV wireless charging systems. The organization announced a single wireless charging standard—officially J2954—in 2020. As part of the finalization process of that standard, the organization has settled on a methodology for hardware that aligns charging receivers located on vehicles with transmitters located on the ground or a garage floor in all conditions, and that can be interoperable with different hardware. Such an alignment methodology is the “missing piece” of standardization of wireless charging, according to SAE International, and an important piece toward reaching the 93% efficiency that’s…
Changan’s production facility in Thailand will introduce models from sub-brands Deepal, Avatr, and Qiyuan, with an annual capacity of 100,000 units in the first phase. (Image credit: Changan Automobile) Changan Automobile aims to have its plant in Thailand, which began construction earlier this month, up and running by the first quarter of 2025. The Chinese auto giant held a brand launch in Thailand today, saying it will use Thailand as a base to enter more Southeast Asian countries and other right-hand drive car markets. The first phase of Changan’s production base in Thailand, which will start production in the first…
Source: Mercedes-Benz USA Looking to put a huge holiday ribbon on a new EV? There’s a widespread belief that buying a new car is always much cheaper than leasing it in the long run. However, we’ve found six EV lease deals that shatter that myth, with terms that pass the entire commercial clean vehicle Federal tax credit to the lessee and enable the lessee to eventually own the vehicle for thousands of dollars less than paying cash up front. As mentioned last month, some folks are using the “1-day lease” to take advantage of these deals by buying out their…
Huawei-backed Aito says new M7 gets over 100,000 firm orders in less than 3 months from launch
The production capacity target for the new Aito M7 has been raised to an average of 700 units per day, with a maximum annual capacity of 200,000 units, according to local media. (Image credit: Aito) Aito, the new energy vehicle (NEV) brand backed by Chinese tech giant Huawei, has updated its order figures for the revamped M7 to show the performance of the model that turned the brand’s fortunes around. The new Aito M7 has accumulated more than 100,000 firm orders after 2.5 months on the market, the brand announced today. Aito is a premium NEV brand launched on December…
