Tesla fans are divided by the automaker’s controversial steering “yoke,” which swaps out the conventional wheel for a rectangle that’s more akin to what you’d find in an airplane’s cockpit or a Formula One race car. Some buyers see it as yet another stroke of genius from Elon Musk. Others think it makes driving more cumbersome with little upside. Up-and-coming Tesla rival Lucid Motors, for its part, isn’t convinced. The California-based EV startup considered adding a yoke to its upcoming Gravity SUV but had too many concerns about operability, Derek Jenkins, the firm’s Senior Vice President of Design and Brand,…
The long-awaited Tesla Cybertruck market launch is tomorrow and as it turns out, some guests are already testing the vehicle—under embargo, of course. But one early dispatch from those tests may have just given us a clue about its range. Gadget expert and YouTuber Marques Brownlee teased a photo from behind the wheel of a Tesla Cybertruck, promising that he will provide all the important numbers and precious details in his upcoming video. But when we take a closer look, it turns out that the photo includes part of the display showing a driving range of 265 miles. The state-of-charge…

The iconic oil-producing state of Texas is living proof that a leopard can change its spots, or at least acquire new spots. Texas has already claimed leadership roles in US wind and solar production. Now it is lighting a fire under the emerging eFuels industry, which deploys captured waste carbon and renewable energy to formulate new synthetic fuels. In the latest development, Texas is hosting a new eFuels project aimed at cutting the carbon footprint of air travel, with American Airlines on board to…
Americans truck owners are a little less interested in electric trucks than last year. EV battery prices are falling. And Lotus rolls out some of the fastest chargers, to very few EVs that can handle it. This and more, here at Green Car Reports. The performance brand Lotus is known for its fast cars, but now it’s offering up some of the fastest EV chargers in the world. While they’re set to make the most of its upcoming Eletre electric SUV, the list of EVs that can take advantage of the extra charge power at this point is very short. …
After years of anticipation, 2024 is shaping up to be the year that automakers will start to deliver electric pickups—even the Tesla Cybertruck, perhaps—in greater volume. But even as overheated EV transaction prices calm and inventories offer the possibility of more test drives, Americans are looking less optimistic about putting an electric pickup in the driveway, based an annual Autolist survey regarding U.S. consumer sentiment about electric trucks. The survey also gauges the popularity of electric trucks with consumers as a potential future vehicle. The annual Electric Truck Survey, out Wednesday, surveyed 3,600 shoppers from August 2023 to November 2023,…
In January 2024, Audi will take on the super tough Dakar desert rally for a third time, bringing with it an upgraded version of its RS Q e-tron prototype. Audi says this year’s fully-electric, off-road e-tron is safer, more reliable, more comfortable, and even a tad lighter. Can it take the podium in the desert this go around? Audi first joined the 2022 Dakar Rally – which is an off-road endurance event held each year since 1979, which sends five competitive groups of both amateur and professional drivers trekking across the Sahara Desert. Since 2020 however, the Dakar has been…
If the American automakers announced a premature victory lap on electric vehicles—one that has maybe turned into a death spiral, depending on who you ask—it’s important to remember China has already lapped us twice over. That country is full of EVs at all sorts of price points that sell at exponentially higher numbers. But just how good are those Chinese EVs, really? That’s hard to say, considering we’re talking about one of the world’s most closed-off countries. I have long wanted to know for myself. To do that, I needed more time with Chinese cars, more conversations with Chinese manufacturers…
Following substantial increases in 2022, EV battery prices are falling again, according to new analysis from Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF). Lithium-ion battery pack prices have fallen 14% this year to a record low of $139 per kwh, BNEF reported this week. This was driven by decreases in raw-material and component prices, as well as production increases coupled with “weaker-than-expected demand,” analysts reported. BNEF predicts 53% year-on-year growth in demand for batteries in both EV and stationary energy storage applications. But many manufacturers still reported underutilization of battery plants, which caused many to revisit production targets. That in turn freed…
The project will have an annual capacity of 720,000 power device products and 6 billion optical microelectronic products when completed. (Image credit: CnEVPost) BYD Semiconductor completed the first phase of a power device and sensor-control device research and manufacturing project in Shaoxing, Zhejiang province in eastern China, the city’s government said in an announcement today. The project, with a total investment of RMB 10 billion yuan ($1.4 billion), covers 417 mu (278,000 square meters) of land. The project will have an annual production capacity of 720,000 power device products and 6 billion sets of optical microelectronic products, and will realize…
