Now that the Tesla Cybertruck has finally been unleashed on the world, all kinds of stories, features, and easter eggs have been hitting the internet—including details from key Tesla figures behind the design of the truck. In a recent interview with Top Gear, Tesla’s chief designer, Franz Von Holzhausen, and VP of engineering, Lars Moravy, revealed one interesting tidbit of information that shows just how rapidly Tesla build the Cybertruck, despite taking four years to actually launch it after the concept was revealed. The kicker? Elon Musk ordered that the team build the first prototype in just 90 days. “Elon…

Chinese e-bike maker Cyrusher has a knack for making rugged e-bikes with a practical side. We saw this in the Trax, a full-suspension, fat-tire e-bike with an easy-access step-through frame. This time around, Cyrusher is back with the Scout, a small and compact e-bike designed to tread beyond the beaten path, all while being a levelheaded companion in the city. Cyrusher positions the Scout as a blend of compactness and high performance. It’s offered in two versions – a standard model that’s frankly not that different from many other e-bikes on the market, and a Pro model that’s much more…

The Cybertruck is out, and it’s amazing—but it doesn’t quite measure up to expectations in some key specs. But it marks the debut of a new Powershare feature set that harnesses bidirectional charging. And in other news, Nio is partnering up with the parent of Volvo and Polestar for battery swapping. This and more, here at Green Car Reports.  The Tesla Cybertruck was revealed Thursday in production form, and the Cybertruck’s stainless-steel construction, steer-by-wire system, and packaging like no other truck are all noteworthy firsts. Tesla made plenty of claims about its performance—like out-accelerating a Porsche 911, while towing a…

Chinese automaker Geely—parent company of Volvo, Polestar, and Lotus—has signed an agreement with Nio to use the latter’s battery-swapping tech in the Chinese market. Under the agreement, the two companies “co-develop two battery swapping standards for private cars and commercial vehicles,” promote adoption of the technology, and scale up battery-swapping operations, according to a Geely press release. The agreement also calls for development of a “unified battery swap operation,” including interoperability between the battery-swapping hardware of both manufacturers. A timeline for meeting these goals was not given, however. 2024 Volvo EM90 Nio rolled out battery swapping in 2019 as a…

Kia America reports 58,338 vehicle sales in the United States in November, which is 2.9% more than a year ago, and the best-ever November. So far this year, the company sold 722,176 vehicles (up 14% year-over-year) setting a new annual record with one month remaining in 2023. Even more interesting things are happening in the all-electric segment, as Kia started customer deliveries of the all-new three-row SUV Kia EV9. In November, the first five EV9s were sold in the U.S. We guess that it will quickly escalate to double- and triple-digit numbers in the coming months, with a chance for…

California’s infamous Salton Sea has been a known hotbed of lithium for years, but no one has known how much “white gold” was found there. Now a new study quantifies that, and it’s impressive: The huge underground reserve of scorching hot brine located underneath the lakebed contains enough lithium to build batteries for 375 million electric vehicle batteries, making it one of the largest lithium brine deposits in the world. A new study from the US Department of Energy released this week is the first to quantify how much valuable metal is down there, and it’s a lot more than…

With the rollout of the production 2025 Cybertruck on Thursday, Tesla included a couple of battery-related surprises—including a long-awaited turnaround on the ability to use its EVs for home-energy backup in power outages.  While one of those battery surprises involved a separate range-extender, mounting inside the pickup’s bed and taking up cargo space (and likely lowering efficiency), to achieve something close to the originally claimed 500-mile range, the Cybertruck’s built-in Powershare capabilities promise to be more of a crowd-pleaser.  With Powershare, Tesla is enabling home backup at up to 11.5 kw through the charge port, or an output of up…
