The Volkswagen Group has big plans for electric SUVs for the U.S. market under its revived Scout Motors brand, and now, its CEO has revealed that famed contract auto manufacturer Magna International will be its “engineering partner.” Speaking with Automotive News, Scout CEO Scott Keogh said the collaboration with Magna was a “good, efficient way to get the car to market on time.” The Canadian company was helpful at the start of the project to get things moving, according to Keogh. “But now Scout engineers are in the lead. We’re driving it,” he said. The Canadian auto parts supplier and contract manufacturer has vast…
Remember when the Tesla Model S Plaid was the go-to choice for any YouTuber who wanted to obliterate almost every high-powered combustion supercar? This guy does. But those times are apparently over because there’s a new battery-powered star in town in the shape of the recently launched Tesla Cybertruck. And you can rest assured that Mat Watson from Carwow did his homework when he traveled to Texas to witness the electric pickup’s delivery event. First, in the hands of Mister Watson, the Cybertruck made a fool of the tri-motor Hummer EV–a drag race you can watch here–and now it’s time…
A new study reveals a massive difference between paid and free DC fast charging of electric vehicles in the United States, both in terms of energy dispensed and time spent charging. According to a report from the Department of Energy’s Vehicle Technologies Office, EV drivers stay almost twice as long at “free” DC fast chargers than at the paid ones. That conclusion is based on more than 2.3 million sessions at non-Tesla DC charging stations between June 2020 and June 2023. As it turns out, the average driver spends 78 minutes per session and gains 40.7 kilowatt-hours of energy at the free DC fast…
F-150 Lightning V2H, “missing mass market” for EVs, Stellantis fights CARB: Today’s Car News
The Ford F-150 Lightning could cut your utility bills. Stellantis is pushing back versus California about deals with other automakers. And is there a “missing mass market” for EVs? This and more, here at Green Car Reports. Jeep and Dodge parent company Stellantis is the latest automaker to fight California emissions rules, claiming that they’re giving several other automakers that opted to cut an early deal with the state’s Air Resources Board a competitive advantage. To help meet the stricter California rules, Stellantis has already announced plans to decrease non-hybrid sales in California emissions states. Ford has taken the bidirectional…
Recent coverage of increasing EV inventories is missing the point, J.D. Power argues in a new report. EVs accounted for 8.2% of new-vehicle sales in the U.S. through October 2023, up from just 2.6% in 2020. But much recent discussion has focused on the increasing number of EVs on dealer lots, which is taken as an indication that EV demand is slowing. J.D. Power argues that the situation is more complex than that. The number of consumers interested in an EV has actually increased, according to J.D. Power. In surveys, those who say they are “very likely” to purchase or…

China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) today released its latest catalog of models that will soon be allowed to be sold, and the public can submit their feedback…
A Ford F-150 Lightning electric pickup truck takes money and energy to operate, but Ford is now trying to show customers one way the truck can earn its keep while parked. The automaker on Thursday announced a project in partnership with Residio Technologies to demonstrate how the Lightning’s vehicle-to-home (V2H) capability can be used for home energy management. The project will pair V2H with Residio smart thermostats to potentially save money on home electricity bills, maximize use of clean energy, and reduce strain on the grid, Ford said in a press release. Ford and Residio V2H project Ford already pitches…
Stellantis has announced that it plans to cut what will likely be thousands of jobs from its Jeep plants in Detroit and Toledo, Ohio, blaming California’s emissions regulations for putting the company at a competitive disadvantage.
