SAIC Motor’s MG brand has officially launched the Cyberster in China, after starting to take reservations for the electric roadster at the end of September.

MG made the Cyberster available at today’s Guangzhou auto show, offering three versions, including two single-motor versions as well as a dual-motor version.

MG calls the three versions the Glamour Edition, Style Edition, and Pioneer Edition, with starting prices of RMB 319,800 ($44,150), RMB 339,800, and RMB 359,800, respectively.

The two-seater electric sports car is based on the MG Cyber Cube platform and measures 4,535 mm in length, 1,913 mm in width, 1,329 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,690 mm.

The dual-motor version of the MG Cyberster is powered by two permanent magnet synchronous motors with peak power of 150 kW and 250 kW respectively and supports a top speed of 200 km/h.

It has a maximum horsepower of 544 PS and a maximum torque of 725 Nm and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in as fast as 3.2 seconds.

Both single-motor variants of the MG Cyberster are powered by rear-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motors, with the lower-powered variant having a peak motor power of 231 kW, and the other version having a peak motor power of 250 kW.

The power batteries of the model are all ternary lithium-ion batteries, the supplier of which is a joint venture between SAIC and CATL.

The MG Cyberster is available with battery pack capacities of 64 kWh and 77 kWh, and the range of the three versions is 501 km, 520 km and 580 km respectively.

The MG Cyberster’s cockpit is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip, which is the cockpit chip used in mainstream flagship EVs for the last two years, although some newer models are already getting Qualcomm’s next-generation Snapdragon 8295 chip.

MG, short for Morris Garages, is a vehicle brand owned by Shanghai-based SAIC. The MG Cyberster first appeared in the public eye at the Shanghai auto show two years ago.

MG conducted a crowdfunding campaign for the roadster at the time, confirming that the model would be mass-produced after the crowdfunding amount reached RMB 50 million.

On September 26, MG announced that the Cyberster was available for pre-sale in China in three versions, but no pre-sale price range was announced at the time.
