In December, 17,700 Nio vehicles were registered for insurance in China, 17,300 for Xpeng and 76,000 for Tesla.
Data shared by Li Auto (NASDAQ: LI) showed how the major electric vehicle (EV) makers performed last week in terms of sales in China, although December’s delivery numbers have already been released.
For the week of December 25 to December 31, Li Auto (NASDAQ: LI) sold 14,100 units, the company said today on Weibo.
As before, Li Auto didn’t explain the basis for calculating the weekly sales, but apparently they, were insurance registrations. The company suspended sharing those numbers in May, but has since resumed sharing them.
It’s important to note that the insurance registrations numbers are different from the deliveries numbers posted by automakers, although the difference isn’t usually significant.
Li Auto’s insurance registrations were up 16.53 percent last week from 12,100 the week before. The company’s three models currently on sale are the Li L7, Li L8 and Li L9, all of which are extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs), essentially plug-in hybrids.
The Li L7 had 5,500 insurance registrations last week, the Li L8 4,100, and the Li L9 4,500, according to Li Auto.
Between December 1 and December 31, insurance registrations for Li Auto vehicles were 50,500 units.
Li Auto delivered a record 50,353 vehicles in December, marking the first time monthly deliveries have exceeded the 50,000-unit mark, according to data it released on January 1.
Nio (NYSE: NIO) vehicles had 5,700 insured registrations in China last week, up 39.02 percent from 4,100 the week before.
Between December 1 and December 31, Nio vehicles had 17,700 insurance registrations, according to data shared by Li Auto.
Nio delivered 18,012 vehicles in December, the third highest on record, behind July’s 20,462 and August’s 19,329, according to data it released on January 1.
Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) was at 4,800 vehicles last week, up 23.08 percent from 3,900 the week before.
Between December 1 and December 31, Xpeng had 17,300 vehicle insurance registrations.
Xpeng delivered a record 20,115 vehicles in December, marking the third consecutive month above the 20,000-unit mark, according to figures it announced on January 1.
Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) reported 15,800 insured registrations in China last week, down 14.59 percent from 18,500 the previous week.
Between December 1 and December 31, a total of 76,000 Tesla vehicles were registered for insurance in China.
Tesla sold 94,139 China-made vehicles in December, including those delivered in China and exported from its Shanghai plant, according to data released earlier today by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).
Insurance registrations of BYD (OTCMKTS: BYDDY) vehicles in China totaled 76,800 last week, up 20.19 percent from 63,900 the week before.
For the period from December 1 to December 31, BYD’s figure was 256,800 units.
BYD sold 341,043 NEVs in December, including 340,178 passenger NEVs, and 865 commercial NEVs, according to figures it announced on January 1.
BYD’s premium brand Denza stood at 3,300 units last week, up 43.48 percent from 2,300 units in the previous week.
Denza sold 11,929 units in December, including 10,492 D9 MPVs, 1,035 N7 SUVs, and 402 N8 SUVs, according to figures released by BYD.
Zeekr was at 4,200 units last week, up 50 percent from 2,800 units in the previous week.
Zeekr delivered a record 13,476 vehicles in December, according to data released by the company on January 1.
Leapmotor was at 4,500 vehicles last week, up 7.14 percent from 4,200 the week before.
Leapmotor delivered 18,618 vehicles in December, a new all-time record, according to figures it released.
Neta‘s figures for last week were unavailable as it failed to enter any of the rankings published by Li Auto.
Neta delivered 5,135 vehicles in December, down 34.12 percent year-on-year and 58.94 percent from November.
